Con una nota apparsa sul sito ieri, l’organo internazionale ha comunicato che Il Comitato Esecutivo Europeo FIBA ha deciso venerdì di rinviare a data da destinarsi il Campionato Europeo Fiba Under 18 2016, che avrebbe dovuto essere disputato a Samsun, Turchia dal 30 luglio al 7 agosto.
Il Comitato ha preso in considerazione la situazione attuale in Turchia e la corrispondenza che ha ricevuto da diverse Federazioni Nazionali, esprimendo loro profonda preoccupazione per la partecipazione al torneo, seguendo apprensione da parte dei genitori dei giocatori, che sono ancora minorenni.
Il Comitato ha incaricato il Segretariato di FIBA Europa di valutare opzioni per giocare il torneo o alla fine dell’anno 2016 o al più tardi, all’inizio del 2017. L’ammissibilità dei membri del team nazionali attuali non saranno interessati.
La Fiba ha inoltre ribadito il suo sostegno alla Federazione Pallacanestro Turca (TBF) che ha più volte, così come in questa occasione, mostrato un alto grado di competenza e ottime capacità organizzative.

The FIBA Europe Executive Committee has decided on Friday to postpone indefinitely the FIBA U18 European Championship 2016 which was due to take place in Samsun, Turkey from 30 July – 7 August.
The Committee took into consideration the current situation in Turkey and correspondence it has received by several National Federations, expressing their deep concerns about participating in the tournament, following apprehension from the parents of the players, who are still minors.
The Committee has tasked the Secretariat of FIBA Europe to explore options to play the tournament either at the end of the calendar year 2016 or at the beginning of 2017 at the latest.
The eligibility of the current national team members will not be affected. The Committee has also reiterated its support to the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) who has repeatedly, as well as on this occasion, shown a great degree of competence and excellent organisational skills.
